Clonroche School Band
The students of Clonroche National School are encouraged to develop their interest in music and instrumental music plays a prominent roll in the school calander. The school band consists of students from 3rd to 6th class and they rehearse every Monday and Friday morning in the school assembly hall. Instruments played are banjo, fiddle, bodhrán and whistle.
All students from 1st class upwards learn the whistle. Also, a small number of students take music classes outside of school, the majority of which attend Anna Murphy in the school assembly hall on Tuesdays, after school.
The school band provides music for various occasions throughout the school year such as the school concert, church events, seachtain na gaeilge, visitations to the school etc. Recently Radio na life interviewed some of the senior students as gaeilge and recorded their music.
The longstanding music tradition in the parish continues to be fostered in Clonroche National School, long may it continue.
