Wexford piper-Seamus MacMathuna, playing"Se fath mo bhuartha"

Jimmy is playing a set of pipes made byWilliam Rowsome, father of the great piper, Leo Rowsome. This track is from an old 78 record made back in the 60's called "From the banks of the Slaney".Jimmy who is a founder member of "Na Piobairi Uilleann" and is also a noted reed maker can still be heard playing in various street sessions at fleadhs around the country.

  1. Seamus MacMathúna ended his life's journey today - 4 April 2022 with Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Rowe Street Wexford. A group of uilleann pipers provided music at the beginning of the service and at the Offertory and as his remains were leaving the church. Members of the Wexford Folk Orchestra also provided music throughout the Mass. A well deserved musical tribute to Seamus by his many musical friends and fellow uilleann pipers. Two glowing eulogies were delivered prior to Mass by two of his students - Martin Murphy and Colm Conneely. His funeral cortege was lead by Castlebridge Fife and Drum Band of which Seamus was a member for many years. He departed like an Irish Chieftain. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
